Hans Brinker Budget Hotel
Infamy through honesty.
We worked with KesselsKramer on several Brinker campaigns, two of which are presented here.
From the start, the strategy was clear: embrace the hotel’s awfulness. This bold honesty turned Brinker into a cult hit. The only complaints from backpackers were that the hostel failed to live up to its terrible reputation.
One campaign, Accidentally Eco-Friendly, mocked industry greenwashing with ads, film, and half a T-shirt. It features a naked man towelling himself on a curtain - viewer discretion required.
Worst Hotel in the World is a book compiling 18 years of Brinker campaigns, interviews, guest diaries, and photography of unappetizing chicken. One Amazon reviewer said, “Brings back memories, plus its great design and marketing.” 4.4 stars.
